State Sightings: Kellogg In, Post Falls Out

Final berths to state basketball tournaments were decided in Idaho during playoff action Saturday.

Post Falls’ hopes of a trip to the State A-1 tourney were dashed, 89-74 by Capital.

Kellogg earned the second state berth from the Intermountain League by using tenacious defense in a 51-32 win over St. Maries.

A-3 independent Wallace led by two points at halftime before falling apart in the second half and losing 56-35 to Grangeville in a cross-district playoff.

And in the final district contest involving Panhandle teams, Lakeside of Plummer earned a trip to the State A-4 tournament by sprinting away from Mullan, 54-30.

Pairings for the four state tournaments, which begin Thursday:

At Holt Arena, Pocatello: Highland (17-6) vs. Centennial; Lake City of Coeur d’Alene (18-4) vs. Meridian (14-9); Eagle (13-10) vs. Blackfoot (19-6); and Rigby (18-6) vs. Capital (16-9).

At Reed Gym, Pocatello: Kellogg (19-4) vs. Jerome (15-9); Bishop Kelly (23-0) vs. Bear Lake (19-3); Moscow (18-3) vs. Marsh Valley (11-13); and Shelley (16-6) vs. Vallivue (18-6).

At Skyline High School, Idaho Falls: Teton (24-0) vs. Fruitland (18-6); Declo (16-6) vs. Malad (22-1); Potlatch (19-4) vs. Soda Springs (17-9); and Homedale (17-6) vs. Grangeville (17-7).

At Hillcrest High School, Idaho Falls: Lakeside (19-4) vs. Cascade (15-8); Highland-Craigmont (18-6) vs. Shoshone (21-4); North Gem (14-9) vs. Carey (19-7); and Oakley (22-2) vs. Nampa Christian (22-1).
