Stockton Hot In 4th Period Of Jazz Win
NBA
Dallas was supposed to be on the way up with its foundation of Jason Kidd, Jim Jackson and Jamal Mashburn. On Tuesday, Utah’s John Stockton and Karl Malone showed them just how far they have to go.
Stockton had 18 points and 15 assists, six of each in the fourth quarter, and Malone had game-highs with 29 points and 13 rebounds as the Jazz broke open a close game in the final period for a 102-92 victory.
The Mavericks, who have struggled all season and are playing without the injured Mashburn, couldn’t keep up.
The Mavs were never hitting at the same time and made only one serious run at the Jazz.
Every other time they tried, Stockton and Malone got in the way.
Stockton’s 15 assists came one game after he had a season-high 16 against the Los Angeles Lakers.
“I don’t mind them beating us,” said Dallas coach Dick Motta, whose team has lost two straight and eight of nine. “They’re both Hall of Famers, members of Dream Team I and Dream Team III. They deserve it.”
