Upstart UW Tops Colorado
Mark Sanford scored 23 points, 17 in the second half, and Bryant Boston added 20 as the Washington Huskies beat Colorado 76-68 Tuesday night for their fourth victory in a row.
The Huskies (7-2), off to their best start when they opened the 1991 season at 9-1, got 14 points from Jason Hamilton, who made six free throws in the final 33 seconds.
The Buffaloes (5-5) were led by Mack Tuck’s 17 points. Freshman guard Chauncey Billups, the Big Eight’s leading scorer with a 22.3 scoring average coming into the game, was held to four points on 1-for-7 shooting.
Washington, which has added 7-foot-2 Patrick Femerling and 7-foot Todd MacCulloch this season, was outrebounded 35-25. The Huskies won the game at the free-throw line where they shot 20 for 26. The Buffaloes were 7 for 14.
