Dawson Signs Minor-League Deal

Andre Dawson decided to return to Florida, agreeing to a minor-league contract that would pay him $500,000 if he makes the Marlins.

Dawson, who will be 42 in July, hit .257 last season with eight homers and 37 RBIs in 226 at-bats.

The Baltimore Orioles named their coaching staff for the 1996 season, replacing every coach from last year except bullpen coach Elrod Hendricks.

Manager Davey Johnson’s staff includes pitching coach Pat Dobson, hitting coach Rick Down, bench coach Andy Etchebarren, third base coach Sam Perlozzo and first base coach John Stearns.

Anthony Young, who became a free agent Dec. 21 when the Chicago Cubs failed to offer a 1996 contract, agreed to a minor-league contract with Houston.
