Feist Coaches West Valley To Victory Over Riverside

Frontier League basketball

The West Valley Eagles, heartened by the unexpected appearance of coach Joe Feist, pulled off a key early-season Frontier League victory Friday night at Riverside.

The Eagles (1-0, 8-1) defeated the Rams 61-56 in Riverside’s Class AA basketball debut after years in the Northeast A League. Riverside dropped to 6-3 overall.

The Eagles led 33-22 at halftime, and the Rams couldn’t get any closer than five points in the second half despite Donny Hodgson’s four 3-point baskets in the fourth period.

David Schillinger led WV with 21 points, Josh Sweet added 14 and Vinnie Pecht had 10. For Riverside, Ryan Monroe scored 17 and Hodgson 14. The Rams made eight 3’s.

The Eagles were already on their way to Riverside when Feist was informed Friday afternoon he would be allowed to coach pending an appeal of last week’s suspension for receiving two technical fouls in the championship game of the WV tournament against Gonzaga Prep. Schillinger and Eagle Ty Gregorak also played Friday night pending appeal.
