St. George’s Win Marks 100 Straight In Panorama Play

Area girls

The St. George’s Standard reached the century mark on Friday.

Miranda Routh-Corker had 13 rebounds against a taller line and Melissa Harvill had nine of the team’s 20 steals as St. George’s beat visiting Northwest Christian 43-25 to earn its 100th consecutive Panorama League girls basketball win.

The Brewster boys (1974-77) and Colfax boys (‘77-‘80) are thought to have the state’s second- and third-longest league win streaks. Neither reached 60.

“Certainly, when we started off in this league, we never thought we’d see the day when we’d win five in a row, much less 100,” said Dragons coach Ross Thomas.

The Dragons’ last league setback came in 1989, a 40-39 loss to Columbia.

St. George’s improved to 4-0, 4-6. NWC is 2-1, 4-5.
