Lewiston Takes Win; Bonners Tops Kellogg

Lewiston rode the 21 points and 13 rebounds of Ben Feider past Sandpoint 65-60 in an Inland Empire League boys basketball game at Booth Hall on Friday.

The win keeps the Bengals (2-0, 5-7) unbeaten in IEL play heading into next Friday’s key matchup at Lake City (10-3, 3-0).

The Bulldogs (5-9, 0-2) led 29-28 at halftime. Back-to-back 3-point field goals by senior guard Clayton Steele staked Lewiston to a 58-50 lead with 4 minutes left in the fourth quarter.

The Badgers roared back from a 20-point third-quarter deficit to upset No. 2-ranked Kellogg in a matchup of between last year’s co-champions.

Adam Hiatt scored 10 of his game-high 26 points for Bonners Ferry (3-1, 5-5) in the decisive fourth quarter.

The Badgers went 13-of-14 at the freethrow line down the stretch and 6-of-7 from the field.

The Bears established an early lead and managed to hold off the pesky Lumberjacks at St. Maries. The host team (1-2, 4-5) closed to within four points with 1 minute to go in the third quarter, but the next seven points belonged to Moscow (3-0, 9-2).

The Loggers outscored the Miners 23-7 in the decisive fourth quarter to break open a one-point game at Wallace.

Potlatch exploited the shorter Miners on the boards, especially under its own basket.

Wallace (4-7) got a team-high 14 points from Ian Cotter. Post Matt Hegbloom added 12 points and nine rebounds.
