John Fee Coeur d’Alene

Memorial service for John Glover Fee, 89, will be today at 2 p.m. at Heritage Place Chapel, 704 Walnut Ave., in Coeur d’Alene. Coeur d’Alene Memorial Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Fee, who was born in China, died Thursday.

He lived in China, British Columbia and Oregon before graduating from the Bible Institute in Los Angeles.

He later returned to China as a missionary. He moved to British Columbia in 1939 and had lived in various cities in Washington and Oregon before moving to Coeur d’Alene in 1980.

Mr. Fee was a member of Mountain View Bible Church in Post Falls.

Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Theodora; five daughters, Agnes Hughes of Oregon, Kathie Bicknell of Caldwell, Idaho, Betty Solomon of Texas, Carol Riffle of Rathdrum, Idaho, and Marilyn Cole of California; 14 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Omar Carroll Spokane

A memorial service for Omar E. Carroll, 73, is scheduled for 11 a.m. today at Spokane Valley United Methodist Church. Thornhill Valley Funeral Home is in charge of cremation and arrangements.

Mr. Carroll, who was born in Boulder, Colo., died Jan. 3.

He graduated from Lewiston High School in 1941 and served in the Marines during World War II. After the war he served in the Army Reserve, retiring as a first master sergeant.

He received a master of science degree from the University of Idaho and taught biology, chemistry and driver’s education at Central Valley High School in Spokane from 1953 until his retirement in 1979.

Mr. Carroll was a member of the Retired Teachers Association and the Spokane Valley Lions Club.

He was a volunteer at Sacred Heart Medical Center. His volunteer work with the American Association of Retired Persons included serving as associate state director of the 55-Alive driving program and teaching driving classes.

His first wife, Joyce, died previously.

Survivors include his wife, Marguerite; one son, Sam Carroll of Australia; three daughters, Jacqueline Carroll of Seattle, Laura Smith of Pullman and Deanna McDaniel of Lakeview, Ohio; one brother, Marvin Carroll of Kooskia, Idaho; and five grandchildren.

Judy Newton Greenacres

Service for Judy Lee Newton, 48, will be today at 11 a.m. at Yates Funeral Home in Coeur d’Alene.

Ms. Newton died Tuesday from injuries suffered in an industrial accident at the Kaiser Aluminum Trentwood Plant.

She was born and raised in Coeur d’Alene, graduating from Coeur d’Alene High School in 1965. She moved to Spokane in 1966 and worked at Value Mart. She was later transferred to Value Mart in Bellingham before returning to Spokane a year later.

She worked at Columbia Lighting before going to work as a crane operator at Kaiser in 1978.

Ms. Newton was a member of the Back Country Horseman and loved animals, reading and being outdoors.

Survivors include her mother, Alice Newton of Spokane; one brother, Larry of Coeur d’Alene; and one sister Karen Fritz of Spokane.

Elizabeth Gaffney Spokane

Mass of the Resurrection for Elizabeth (Betty Clare) Gaffney, 80, will be at 11 a.m. today at Mary Queen of Heaven Catholic Church, in Sprague, Wash. Burial will follow at the Maccabee Cemetery, Sprague. The Rev. James McGreevy, Mrs. Gaffney’s cousin, will officiate at both services. Danekas Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Gaffney, who died Wednesday, was a graduate of Cheney Normal School.

She was a retired schoolteacher and a homemaker.

She was a member of the Mary Queen of Heaven Catholic Church and Altar Society.

Mrs. Gaffney’s survivors include her husband, John Gaffney; two sons, Mike Gaffney and Jack Gaffney, both of Spokane; four daughters, Anne Machala of Coopertino, Calif., Mary Jaggars of Athena, Ore., Maureen McDonough of Ontario, Ore., and Kathleen Gaffney of Seattle; two sisters, Dorothy Amend of Milwaukie, Ore., and Peggy Joyer of Denver; 10 grandchildren, five stepgrandchildren and eight stepgreat-grandchildren.

William Chipman Pullman

Service for William Martin Chipman, 51, is scheduled for 11 a.m. today at Simpson United Methodist Church. Burial will follow at the Pullman City Cemetery. Kimball Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Chipman, who was born at Hailey, Idaho, died Wednesday.

He graduated from Mountain Home (Idaho) High School and the University of Idaho.

In 1976 he became a partner in what is now Chipman and Taylor Chevrolet-Oldsmobile in Pullman.

He was a member of St. James Episcopal Church, the Inland Empire Chevrolet Advertising Association board, the Washington Insurance Trust Association board, the regional Oldsmobile and Chevrolet dealers council, Delta Chi fraternity, the Pullman High School Booster Club, the Goodfellowship Club, the Vandal Booster Wheel Club and the Clarkston Country Club. He also was a trustee of the Washington State University Foundation.

Mr. Chipman is survived by his wife, Carol Chipman; a daughter, Cynthia Chipman of Seattle; a son, Richard Chipman of Pullman; his mother, Martha Ascuena of Mountain Home; and his brother Gary Chipman of Weiser, Idaho.

Joanne Carnine Spokane

A memorial service for Joanne M. Carnine, 65, is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. today at St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery. Thornhill Valley Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Carnine, a lifetime resident of Spokane, died Tuesday.

She graduated from Sacred Heart Nursing School as a licensed practical nurse.

She had been employed by a doctor and various nursing homes, including St. Ann’s Children’s Home.

She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church.

Survivors include two sons, Richard Carnine and Bruce Carnine, both of Spokane; two daughters, Cindy Draper of Spokane and Susan Lincoln of Suquamish, Wash.; three brothers, Robert Dhaenens, James Dhaenens and Thomas Dhaenens, and one sister, Doreen Dieckhoff, all of Spokane; and 11 grandchildren.

Florence Allum Spokane

Memorial service for Florence C. Allum, 76, is scheduled for 10 a.m. today at Ball and Dodd Funeral Home South. Ball and Dodd is also handling the cremation.

Mrs. Allum, who was born in Choteau, Mont., died Wednesday.

She was a member of St. Anne’s Church, Roundtable and the Brotherhood of Friends.

Her first husband, Virgil Allum, died in 1968.

Survivors include her husband, Michael Redd; two daughters, Audrey LaRance of Conrad, Mont., and Marjorie Brass of Newport, Wash.; one son, Gerald Allum of Selah, Wash.; two brothers, Floyd Brono of Warm Springs, Mont., and Lorman Bruno of Hungry Horse, Mont.; one sister, Mary Torno of Helena; and seven grandchildren.

Mary Ann Brink Chewelah, Wash.

Mass of Christian burial for Mary Ann Brink, 85, will be held at 10 a.m. today at St. Henry Catholic Church, Grand Coulee. Burial will follow at the Spring Canyon Cemetery, Grand Coulee. Strate Funeral Chapel, Grand Coulee, is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Brink, who was born in Giltedge, Mont., died Tuesday.

She was a member of the Ladies Guild and Altar Society of St. Henry Catholic Church of Grand Coulee.

Survivors include one daughter, JoAnn Haynie of Chewelah; one son, John Brink of Daytona Beach, Fla.; one sister, June Miller of Great Falls, Mont.; one brother, Daniel Sharp of Colorado Springs, Colo.; and six grandchildren.

Anna Cox Colville, Wash.

Service for Anna L. Cox, 96, is scheduled for 10 a.m. today at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Colville. Graveside service will follow at Mountain View Park Cemetery, Colville. Danekas Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Cox, a lifetime resident of the Colville area, died Wednesday.

She was a member of the Bruce Creek and Fort Colville Granges and St. Paul Lutheran Church.

Survivors include one daughter, Eleanor Bestrom of Colville; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Robert Coons Ione, Wash.

A military memorial for Robert Dean “Bob” Coons, 70, is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. today at Ione Riverside Cemetery. The Cremation Society of Washington is in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Coons, born in Steele City, Neb., died Jan. 5.

He served in the Army during World War II in the Pacific Theater and was employed in the timber industry.

Survivors include his dear friend, Mary Koontz; three daughters, Carol Fisher and Judy Peterson, both of Spokane, and Barbara Coons of Oklahoma City, Okla.; one son, Ross Coons of Spokane; one sister, Darlene Zumwalt of Spokane; and 12 grandchildren.

Colleen Denny Loon Lake, Wash.

Memorial service for Colleen (Thompson) Denny, 82, is scheduled for 11 a.m. today at Loon Lake Congregational Church. Private burial has already taken place. Hazen & Jaeger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Denny, who was born at Hayden Lake, Idaho, died Jan 4.

She moved to Loon Lake after retiring from John W. Graham Co.

She was a member of Loon Lake Congregational Church.

Her husband, Walter Denny, died in 1983.

She is survived by her sister, Maxine Sherfey of Spokane.

Loretta Rains Cheney

Memorial Services for Loretta May Rains, 17, is scheduled for 1 p.m. today at Mary Queen Catholic Church. The Cremation Society of Washington is in charge of the arrangements.

Miss Rains, who was born in Spokane, died last Saturday following a long illness. She had lived in Cheney for the past eight years.

Survivors include her parents, David and Yvonne Rains, and one brother, Jason Rains, all of Cheney; her grandparents Marvin and Vivian Zachow of Cheney, and Jack and Marjorie Rains of Spokane.

Eva Welker Spokane

Service for Eva Mae Welker, 84, is scheduled for noon today at Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-North. Burial will be at Greenwood Memorial Terrace.

Mrs. Welker, who was born in Seattle, died Tuesday.

She was a member of the Eiram Court No. 62, Ladies of the Oriental Shrine; Grotto Ladies; the Eagles, Moose and Elks lodges; the Brotherhood of Friends and the Garden Club.

Survivors include one son, Bill Houk of Spokane; one daughter, Dixie Mae Self of Windsor, Calif; six grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Joanna Sears Spokane

Memorial service for Joanna Sue Sears, 40, was Thursday at the Eagle’s Nest Church.

Mrs. Sears, who was born in Alma, Ark., died Monday.

Survivors include her husband, Alvin Sears; and one brother, Harry Aldinger of Alabama.

Henry Storrs Spokane

Funeral Mass for Henry Randolph Storrs Jr., 84, will be held at 8 a.m. today at St. Patrick Catholic Church. Burial will be at Holy Cross Cemetery. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Storrs, who was born in Seattle, died Monday.

He graduated from Gonzaga University.

His survivors include two nieces, Maureen Joplin of Heidelberg, Germany, and Sarah Mason of Tenino, Wash.; and three nephews, Eamon Matthew Storrs of Oak Harbor, Wash., Peter Storrs Jr. of Anchorage, Alaska, and Christopher Storrs of North Bend, Wash.

Betty Wickware Spokane

Memorial service for Betty Wickware, 75, is scheduled for 2 p.m. today at Maplewood Gardens. Ball and Dodd Funeral Home South is in charge of the cremation and arrangements.

Mrs. Wickware, who born in Spokane, died Tuesday.

She graduated from North Central High School.

She was a retired secretary.

Survivors include one niece, Marlene Henle of Olympia; and one nephew, William Ross of Federal Way, Wash.

William Piper Spokane

Service for William C. Piper Jr., 72, is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Monday at the North Hill Christian Church. Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-North is in charge of the arrangements and cremation.

Mr. Piper, who born in Myrtle Creek, Ore., died Sunday.

He graduated from Beloit High School in Beloit, Kan.

He served in the Air Force for 24 years. He flew on 50 B-25 missions during the Korean War and spent three years in Japan during the Vietnam War. He also served temporary duty in Vietnam.

Mr. Piper was a member of North Hill Christian Church and served as an elder and deacon.

He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and Disabled American Veterans.

He delivered for Meals on Wheels for 15 years.

Survivors include his wife, Patricia Piper; one son, Michael Piper of Chicago; two sisters, Rosalie Jackson of Newberg, Ore., and Roberta Beckingham of Aurora, Colo.; two brothers, Jim Piper of Santa Ana, Calif., and John Piper of Signal Hill, Calif.; and three grandchildren.

Berniece Duoos Port Townsend, Wash.

No service is planned for Berniece M. Duoos, 87. Kosec Funeral Home of Port Townsend is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Duoos, a longtime Spokane-area resident, died Monday.

She was born in North Dakota and moved to Spokane in 1939. She moved to Port Townsend in 1994.

She enjoyed playing bridge in Spokane and spending summers at her cabin at Rockford Bay on Lake Coeur d’Alene. Mrs. Duoos also enjoyed skiing.

She recently began spending summers at her home at Priest Lake, Idaho.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Stener.

Survivors include a son, Richard Duoos of Port Ludlow, Wash.; a sister, Mildred Sillerud of North Dakota; five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
