The subject is wives of candidates, and Mirabella magazine devotes much of its efforts to Republican-bashing.

For example, it quotes Bill Clinton’s campaign strategist, James Carville, on the notion of Republican family values. “The Republicans must love families,” says Carville, “they have so many of them. I’m offering a reward to any Republican candidate who’s left his wife for an older woman.”

And then the first wife of Republican presidential candidate Bob Dole, 72, attempts to explain their divorce.

“We didn’t communicate very much,” Phyllis Macey, 71, says. “The last year we were married, he worked from sunup to past sundown… Bob wasn’t a hugger and a toucher.” She adds, “What is amazing is how young he looks for how old he is.”
