College Basketball Tonight

Cal Poly-San Luis Obispo at Idaho

Idaho (5-7) tries to snap a four-game losing streak when non-conference Cal Poly-San Luis Obispo (8-7) visits the Kibbie Dome at 7:05.

At a glance: Cal Poly-SLO, coached by former Washington State assistant Jeff Schneider, has lost 26 straight road games. In its last outing, Cal Poly fell at home to George Mason 110-106, but Shanta Cotright scored 43 points for a school record. Idaho lost in overtime at Cal Poly-SLO 10 days ago, despite shooting 51 percent from the field and 87 percent (20 of 23) at the foul line. Two bright spots during UI’s four-game skid have been forward Jason Jackman (16.2 ppg) and guard Eddie Turner (four straight games in double figures).

Whitman at Whitworth

Whitworth (10-2 overall, 2-0 Northwest Conference) hosts the Missionaries (0-2, 5-7) at 8 in the second half of a doubleheader between the school. The women’s teams play at 6.

At a glance: The Pirates are coming off a big weekend in which they defeated Willamette (60-47) and Linfield (96-65). That moved to Pirates up to No. 9 in the NAIA Division II rankings. Whitman lost to Linfield last week (100-83). Whitman guard Dan Rough was a Northwest Conference honorable mention selection for player of the week last week (22 ppg in two contests). Another honorable mention player of the week was Whitworth’s Nate Dunham (averaging 12.5 points, 10 rebounds, 3 assists and 1.5 blocked shots in the Pirates’ weekend games). Three Missionaries - Dan Rough, Evan Jones, Chris Mosley - combine to average 47 of 75 points Whitman scores per game. Whitman’s Andrew Schillinger, former West Valley prep standout, leads the Northwest Conference in assists at 6.5 a game.
