Kentucky’s 86 In First Half Kos Lsu
College basketball
Second-ranked Kentucky set a school record with 86 points in the first half on its way to the highest-scoring road game in its 93-year men’s basketball history, a 129-97 romp over LSU on Tuesday night at Baton Rouge, La.
Antoine Walker scored 32 points in the Wildcats’ 13th straight victory, the longest winning streak in coach Rick Pitino’s seven seasons.
Walker had 28 points as Kentucky took an 86-42 lead at halftime. The 86 points tied for the 13th highest-scoring half in Division I history, and broke the Wildcats’ mark of 75 set in a 143-66 victory over Georgia in 1956.
W. Virginia 90, (12) Syracuse 78
Gordon Malone scored 22 points as the Mountaineers upset the Orangemen at Morgantown, W.Va., for WV’s first Big East Conference victory.
The win snapped a five-game losing streak for West Virginia (6-7, 1-5), while handing Syracuse (13-3, 4-2) its third loss in five games. West Virginia previously blew late leads over nationally ranked Villanova and Georgetown.
West Virginia went on a 13-3 run to build a 21-12 lead 13:40 into the first half and never trailed again, grabbing its biggest lead at 74-60 with 5:21 remaining. WV led at the half 42-38.
Syracuse, whose other league loss was at Miami, managed to cut the lead to five with 1:38 remaining but could get no closer. Forward John Wallace had a season-high 33 points for Syracuse.
(17) Purdue 74, Indiana 69
In West Lafayette, Ind., coach Gene Keady returned early in the morning from his father’s funeral on the West Coast to lead his Boilermakers (14-2, 4-0 Big Ten) past the Hoosiers (10-7, 3-2).
Keady came back from California at 4 a.m. local time. Last week, Keady’s father died and his step-daughter was in an accident that left her in a coma.
Brandon Brantley scored 24 points and Herb Dove 17, both career highs, as Purdue won despite poor foul shooting.
The Boilermakers made only 22 of 42 foul shots but built a big enough cushion to hold off a late rally by the Hoosiers.

St. Mary’s 87, Sac. St. 75
At Moraga, Calif., David Sivulich scored 21 points, including six 3-pointers, and Josh Unruh scored 13 of his 16 points in the second half as St. Mary’s beat pesky Sacramento State in a non conference game.
Sivulich, who came in late off the bench, now has the third most 3-point baskets in a single season at St. Mary’s with 57. He surpassed three Gaels Tuesday and is 11 behind Chris Johnson, who made 68 last season.
It was Sivulich’s 3-pointer at the 11:44-mark of the second half that started the Gaels (7-7) on a 9-0 run to break the game open after the Hornets cut the lead to 58-50.
Sac State (4-12), which lost its fourth straight, never got any closer.
To make matters worse for the Hornets, a thief broke into the Sacramento State locker room during the second half and stole most of the players’ jewelry and wallets containing unspecified amounts of money.
Sivulich, who went 6-for-11 from beyond the 3-point arc, led four Gaels in double figures. Mahershala Gilmore had 14 points, while Ivan Dodic chipped in with 11.
