Newport capped a wild four days on Tuesday with a wild win at Deer Park. Michele Carrara scored 23 and Carey Sauer 20 as the visiting Grizzlies (5-2, 10-3) held off the Stags (5-2, 7-6) 64-63 in a Northeast A thriller that went double overtime. Newport has won eight of nine.
Newport made 7 of 8 free throws during overtimes to seal the win, which came on the heels of Saturday’s victory over second-ranked Colfax. The Grizzlies preserved Tuesday’s win with a blocked shot with 1 second left in the second OT.
DP’s Tricia Gest had 10 rebounds.
