Badgers Nudge Viks On Last-Ditch Basket

The Coeur d’Alene Vikings led most of the way in their non-league battle with Bonners Ferry, but the Badgers hit a shot with 3 seconds left to take a 65-64 win at Viking Gym on Thursday night.

Luke O’Dowd led the Vikings with 17 points.

“We were ahead all the way, but gave it up at the end,” Vikings coach Larry Bieber said.

No other details were available.

Brent Stevens scored 18 points to lead the Wampus Cats to a non-league victory at home against North Idaho Christian.

The Timberwolves shot just 11-of-37 from the field and dropped an Inland Empire League contest at Lewiston.

No Lake City players scored in double figures. Lewiston got 21 points from Annie McEachern.

Lake City (11-7, 5-3), the defending state champion, and Lewiston (12-7, 4-4, play a rematch next Thursday in the A-1, Region-I in Coeur d’Alene. Lake City, which finished second, will host the first-round game.

Elsewhere in the IEL, Sandpoint (15-2, 7-0) throttled visiting Post Falls (11-8, 3-5) 70-44. No details were reported.

Falls Christian senior Sarah Peterson broke the 1,500-point mark for her career with a 21-point effort in a North Star League victory over the visiting Tigers.

Peterson was awarded the game ball after a momentous evening that also saw her grab nine rebounds and dish out eight assists.

Falls Christian (12-5, 4-2) also received 11 points from Ana Pang. No Tigers (1-13, 0-6) scored in double figures.

The Warriors’ attempts to put full-court pressure on Lakeside backfired as they ran out of gas at the end and fell at home in a North Star League contest.

Becky Bateman and Amber Paulson each scored 10 points as the visiting Badgers thumped Lakeland in an Intermountain League contest.

Bonners Ferry (12-5, 7-1) pulled away in the third quarter with pressure defense that forced the Hawks (2-14, 2-6) into numerous turnovers. All of Paulson’s points came in the third period.

Lakeland’s Amber Jamison had nine points.

Priest River 58, Kellogg 54

Sara Suchocki scored 14 points, including a pair of key free throws in the final minute, as Priest River outlasted visiting Kellogg in an Intermountain League game.

Priest River is 10-7, 4-4. Kellogg is 5-13, 2-8.
