Playfest Features Early Works By Playwright Bryan Harnetiaux
Valley Repertory Theatre’s annual showcase of locally written plays takes a different twist this year.
It’s called “An Evening With Bryan” because both plays are by Spokane playwright Bryan Harnetiaux.
Harnetiaux is the author of 20 plays and is Spokane Civic Theatre’s playwright in residence.
The first play of the evening is called “Vital Statistics,” a one-act comedy. The second, “Garage Sale,” is a two-act comedy about this unique American tradition. Both are labeled “early Harnetiaux” because they were written in the 1980s.
These comedies are directed by Jodine Watson and Felicia Farquartt. Cast members include Bruce Arnold, Denise Sutton Utter, Kathie Doyle-Lipe, Chuck Burmingham, Dean Culp, Ole Roush and Watson.
In keeping with the garage sale theme, Valley Rep will sell some “Garage Sale” props after each performance. On the final night there will be a garage sale clearance night.
“An Evening With Bryan” opens tonight at 8 and continues Saturday, Sunday and Jan. 25-27. Performances are at 8 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays, 7:30 p.m. on Thursdays and 2 p.m. on Sundays.
Tickets are $8, $7 for seniors and $6 for students. Call 928-6878 for reservations.
Valley Rep is a community theater on the southwest corner of Sprague and Pines in the Valley.
