Authors Honored For Children’s Books
Karen Cushman and Peggy Rathmann have been named the 1996 recipients of the John Newbery and Randolph Caldecott medals in children’s literature.
The awards were announced Monday during a meeting of the American Library Association being held in San Antonio.
Cushman won the 75th Newbery Medal for the most distinguished contribution to American children’s literature in 1995 for “The Midwife’s Apprentice.”
Rathmann, illustrator and author of “Officer Buckle and Gloria,” won the Caldecott Medal for best illustrations in a children’s book published in 1995.
