North Idaho College will be riding the momentum of a 43-0 shutout victory when the Cardinals entertain Ricks on Saturday afternoon at 2 in Christianson a matchup of two of the country’s top junior college wrestling programs.
NIC (7-2), top-ranked in the country, won 43-0 at Yakima Valley on Monday night. Ricks is ranked fifth.
The Cardinals had just one pin, by Mark Janke at 158 pounds, but got a technical fall from Jason Moaney at 167, three major decisions and two forfeit victories against the Indians.
College basketball
Paul Rogers was a model of consistency during the weekend. Today he’s the West Coast Conference men’s player of the week.
Gonzaga University’s 7-foot junior from Adelaide, Australia, equally divided 42 points and 20 rebounds in victories over San Diego (60-53) and San Francisco (60-55).
Rogers hit 9 of 10 field goals in a 21-point outing against San Diego and 7 of 10 in scoring 21 against USF, pulling down 10 rebounds in each game.
The Whitworth men (12-3), which won two of three games last week, including a weekend split on the road, climbed to No. 7 from No. 9 in this week’s NAIA Division II poll.
Prep boys basketball
Bill Newbill (16), Jon Newbill (15) and Tim Fischer (15) combined for 46 points to lead Christian Heritage to a 60-51 boys basketball victory over visiting Logos of Moscow, Idaho.
Ben Newbill had eight steals for CH. Nathan Wilson had 16 points and 16 rebounds for Logos.

Kellogg (6-13) used balanced scoring and a full-court press to overcome neighboring rival Wallace 53-41. Pauline Costa led four Wildcats in double figures with 13 points and Joey Luchini added 12 with 11 rebounds. Joy Sperry led Wallace with 15 points.
