Rogers Rates Wcc Honor

Paul Rogers was a model of consistency during the weekend. Today he’s the West Coast Conference men’s basketball player of the week.

Gonzaga University’s 7-foot junior from Adelaide, Australia, equally divided 42 points and 20 rebounds in victories over San Diego (60-53) and San Francisco (60-55).

Rogers hit 9 of 10 field goals in a 21-point outing against San Diego and 7 of 10 in scoring 21 against USF. He pulled down 10 rebounds in each game.

The Whitworth men (12-3), who won two of three games last week, including a weekend split on the road, climbed to No. 7 from No. 9 in this week’s NAIA Division II poll.

Four area teams are included among those receiving votes in the Division I polls. Montana, which received enough support to be ranked 30th; Washington State (36th); and Washington (39) got votes in the women’s poll. And the UW men received one vote, good for a tie for 50th.
