Hints From Heloise

King Features Syndicate

Dear Heloise: Rather than use a tortilla skillet to warm tortillas, I place a 14-by-14-inch piece of aluminium foil over the two largest electric burners on my stove. I warm the tortillas two at a time over the foil. - A Reader, San Antonio

Even though I’ve heard of warming tortillas that way, I wasn’t sure about the safety of it, so I called a leading manufacturer of stoves and also a manufacturer of aluminum foil.

Both manufacturers do not recommend putting aluminum foil directly on the burners, as it may damage the coils.

It’s not worth taking a chance, so let’s just stick to using our good old frying pans. - Heloise

Dear Heloise: Love your column. Hope you can use this.

I attach a plastic case (the kind banks use to hold passbooks) to the rings in my address book to hold stamps and address labels. - Dorothy M. Page, Hooksett, N.H.
