Philippine Sea Earthquake Registers 5.5

Associated Press

An 5.5 magnitude earthquake rattled the southeastern Philippines early today.

The temblor was centered in the Philippine Sea, 530 miles southeast of the capital Manila.

It was caused by underground movements along the Philippine Trench, one of the country’s major earthquake generators, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology.

The quake occurred far from population centers.
