Trails Report

North Cascades, east slope

Ranger District contacted: Methow Valley, Winthrop office (509) 996-4000. Snow level: 5,000-6,000 feet. Notes: The West Fork Methow River Trail is snowfree and cleared. It offers a good 12-mile hike with plenty of camping opportunities for those wanting to make the trip a multi-day adventure. The trail offers good views of the river and peaks around it.

Alpine Lakes, east slope

Ranger District contacted: Leavenworth, (509) 782-1413. Snow level: 5,500 feet, some deep valley patches. Notes: Stuart and Colchuck lakes trails are both snowfree and dayhikers can venture out on either trail by picking up a self-issued permit at the trailheads. Backpackers will need to stop at ranger station to get permit.

South Cascades, east slope

Ranger District contacted: Mount Adams, (509) 395-3400. Snow level: 5,000 to 5,500 feet with some patches lower. Notes: Trails into the Indian Heaven Wilderness beginning to open with the best being the Indian Race Track Trail. This route is mostly snowfree and offers good views and plenty of opportunity to see and smell wildflowers.
