Browne’s Mountain Splits In Tournament

The Browne’s Mountain Bandits split a pair of American Legion baseball games Saturday in the Fourth of July Tournament, thumping the Redmond Black Sox 10-2 before losing to the Tacoma Knights 8-0.

Tacoma then went on to beat the Blue Devils 9-4 in the third day of the annual tournament at Shadle Park’s Al K. Jackson Field.

Justin McKitterick, Brian Munhall and Kurt Smidt each had two hits in the Bandits’ rout of the Black Sox. Also for the BMB’s, Brandon Mollett hit a solo home run in the first inning. It was his second homer in as many days.

The game was tied at 1 until the Bandits broke it open with a four-run third inning. The Bandits concluded their scoring with four runs in the sixth.

Tacoma managed to silence the Bandits’ bats as Aaron Araujo and Rory Shanahan combined on a four-hit shutout in a game played at Shadle. It was Shanahan who was credited with the win.

The Knights had seven players with at least one hit.

Tacoma continued its winning ways with a win against the Blue Devils. Chris Wilson went 3 for 4, but had to leave the game after suffering a pulled hamstring muscle.

Meanwhile, the Cannons and Lynwood played to a 4-4 tie at Whitworth College. For Lynwood, Steve Pipkin hit a two-out, RBI single to knot the game in the bottom of the seventh.
