Age No Problem, Says Stassen, 89

Compiled From Wire Services

At age 89, perennial presidential candidate Harold Stassen still has a political mission: becoming Bob Dole’s running mate to show Dole is young enough to be president.

“The fact that I am 89 and continuing to work productively should provide some support to Senator Robert Dole’s view that he is young enough to be a successful president,” Stassen announced Monday. Dole is 72.

Stassen, a former three-term governor of Minnesota, sought the Republican Party nomination for the White House 10 times, first in 1948.
