Dollar Stages Broad Retreat

The dollar, buffeted by disarray in U.S. stock and bond markets, staged a broad retreat Monday after hitting a 29-month high of 111 yen.

All eyes watched for further signs of an impending rise in U.S. interest rates following the unexpectedly strong U.S. jobs report Friday. The rise in jobs raised worries about rekindled inflation in the U.S., something that sent U.S. stock and bond markets plummeting Friday but the dollar rising on beliefs the Federal Reserve would raise interest rates.
