School Board Changes Mind, Oks History Text

Compiled From Wire Services

A school board that rejected a U.S. history textbook last month because it included too much material on the plight of minorities, women and the working class voted 4-1 Monday to approve the book.

Last month, the five-member board fell one vote short of the three needed to approve the best-selling text, “The American People.”

Robert Lattimer, a local conservative leader, said last month that along with too much material on women and American Indians, there were too many “details on the difficulties experienced by slaves, indentured servants, immigrants, farmers and industrial workers.”
