Intruders Make Waves At Shadle Pool
Mischievous burglars paid two visits to the Shadle Park Pool this weekend, apparently searching for nothing more than a quick dip and a few laughs.
They did not damage the building, pool or equipment during two break-ins Friday and Saturday nights. Pool officials believe the burglars had a key.
Pool workers are not suspects, said David Early, director of pools for the Spokane Parks Department.
But the burglars appear to have a warped sense of humor.
They tipped a lifeguard tower into the water and then threw in a rescue float, apparently to save the drowning structure.
“We don’t know if these are some bored kids or somebody who found a key,” said Early. “They are making nuisances more than anything else.”
The pool has been broken into three times since early June.
Early speculated that a janitor may have lost a key.
The pool is getting a new set of locks.
Young cyclists robbed
A trio of youths on bikes was robbed by another trio of bicycle bandits, sheriff’s deputies reported.
Three 12-year-olds were confronted Sunday afternoon in the 7200 block of North Wall by two bicycling teenage boys and a 7 year-old demanding money. The victims handed over a small amount of cash and then ran away to tell one of their fathers.
The father found one of the older bicycle bandits, recovered the money and, after a firm tongue-lashing, allowed the boy to leave.
Robber settles for check
A purse-snatcher accepted a $5 check from his victim, a 33-year-old North Side woman who said she just wanted her identification cards back.
The robber took the woman’s purse while she was walking in the 1500 block of North Monroe July 2. The woman chased the robber, who stopped and admitted he just wanted cash.
“I don’t know a lot of holdup guys who take checks,” said police spokesman Dick Cottam. “Maybe he also takes credit cards.”
Police do not know if the check was cashed.
