Spokane Art Supply Planning Valley Store
Spokane Art Supply has made a crafty decision.
The company plans to open a location in the Valley in mid-August. Spokane Art Supply Too will offer a gamut of must-haves for artists plus a wide selection of products for craft hobbyists.
Owner Claudia Myers said she has examined the possibility of a second store for years.
“Our customers have asked for it for a long time, but now there’s enough growth to support it,” said Myers.
The new store will be located at 14208 E. Sprague in Regency Square.
Valley customers often found Spokane Art Supply’s location on North Monroe too distant for frequent visits. Myers said the new store will make it easier, especially for teachers and other frequent customers, to buy things as they need them on a walk-in basis.
The Valley, she said, is also the perfect market to sell craft products and to offer craft workshops.
Crafting courses will be conducted by Art Works Spokane, a local company owned by Nancy Jones, who formerly owned Homestead Handcrafts.
Subjects will include tole painting, which is decorative work done over wood projects; stenciling; faux finishing, the process of adding simulated marble or other finishes to home decor items; airbrushing; craft painting; and fine arts such as watercolor painting.
Guest artists will also make regular appearances.
“It’s just really unlimited,” Myers said.
Spokane Art Supply has been at its current location, 1303 N. Monroe, for about 15 years. The company was started in 1954 by Myers’ father.
The new Valley store is the first expansion attempt by Spokane Art Supply. The company currently employs 15 people, and will add about seven more in August.
