Hints From Heloise
Dear Heloise: Can you tell me how to make carpet freshener at home? I remember it was to mix your favorite spices with something. I’d sure appreciate it if you would print the recipe again.
Thanks in advance. - Rayanne, Metairie, La.
It’s very easy and I’d be happy to reprint it for you.
Fill a large shaker bottle three-quarters full of baking soda and add a touch of spice - cinnamon, cloves or another favorite. Sprinkle the mixture over your carpet and let it set for a while. Vacuum thoroughly and you have a delicious aroma that works just as well as a commercial deodorizer!
If you have light-colored carpeting, you probably shouldn’t use dark-colored spices because they may stain the carpet, especially if there is any dampness or moisture.
Baking soda is such a great and money-saving cleaner. For a copy of my pamphlet chock-full of fantastic hints, please send $2 and a long, self-addressed, stamped (55 cents) envelope to: Heloise/ Baking Soda, PO Box 795001, San Antonio TX 78279-5001. - Heloise
