The Slice What’s Summer Really About? Kiddie Pools And A Big Dog
This isn’t a contest.
But we would love it if readers would share with us snapshots taken of their children in and around those little inflatable wading pools. (Bonus points if your photo includes the family dog in the water with the kids.)
What to name a newly discovered local lake: “Coeur d’Oreille,” suggested Mark Luhnow.
Edith Davis proposed “No Jet Skiers Allowed Lake.”
“Lake Peggy,” wrote Peg Heidenreich.
“Lilac Lake,” said Roy Dickens.
“Lake No Hope,” suggested Jackie Brauer, who added that the name reflected one’s actual chances of finding peace and quiet there.
Alyssa Akins, 10, offered “Lake Terigoliper” and “Pumpernickel Lake.”
Phyllis Quass nominated “Big Foot Lake” and “D. B. Cooper Lake.”
Dave Moore faxed in “Lake Wowman” (said with a surfer drawl).
“Lake of No Return” was Kristin Harbuck’s idea, in recognition of the “German shepherd-size” mosquitoes sure to be found there.
And Susan Bates-Harbuck suggested “Myssed Lake,” because “It would be a mystery how a lake could be missed in an area where everyone owns at least two boats, one of which runs.”
Still more readers offered, among other names, “Journey’s End,” “Anyplace Else,” “Lake Scapca,” “Duncan Lake,” “Doitinthe Lake,” “Another Lake,” “Lake The,” “Missed Lake,” “Mist Lake,” “Myst Lake,” “Spo Lake,” “Lake Brave Heart” and “Goin’ To The Lake.”
But we’re awarding the Olympic-logo socks to Kellogg’s Marvin Lake. That’s right. He suggested calling it, what else, “Marvin Lake.”
Teenager overheard at NorthTown: “Greece was such a disappointment, it looked just like Wenatchee.” - submitted by Thomas Moore
No Spokane area block party is complete without:
“The neighborhood drunk.” - C. Mitchell
“Having the police come five or six times.” - A. Denman
Warm-up questions: A swimsuit design named after the style preferences of Inland Northwest women would be called what? And the INW-inspired men’s suit?
Today’s Slice question: What’s one thing Spokane tells itself over and over that happens to be a lie?
