Hot Finish Gives Hoch 4-Shot Lead At Michelob

Scott Hoch, bidding to make his eighth career victory a wire-to-wire triumph, shot a 5-under-par 66 Saturday to open a four-shot lead after three rounds of the Michelob Championship at Williamsburg, Va.

Hoch was 2-under for the day until he knocked in a long putt on the 13th hole to begin a run of three birdies. He then parred out to finish with a 15-under 198 on the 6,797-yard River Course at Kingsmill Golf Club.

Former Pullman resident Kirk Triplett shot 73 for a three-day total of 212, 1-over.

At Warren, Ohio, Deb Richard birdied the final two holes for a 7-under 65 and a one-stroke lead after the second round of the Youngstown-Warren LPGA Classic.

Rathdrum’s Tracy Hanson shot a 72 for two-day 141, 3-under. Clarkston’s Robin Walton followed her 80 with a 68 for a 148, and failed to qualify at 4-over.

At Dearborn, Mich., Ray Floyd birdied five of the first seven holes en route to a third-round 65 and a four-stroke lead over Hale Irwin in the Senior Players Championship.

At Carnoustie, Scotland, Ian Woosnam shot a 3-over 75 in the final round and still won the Scottish Open by four strokes.
