Chris Mitchell Breaks Record At Hidden Lakes, Shoots A 65
Hidden Lakes Country Club has a new course record.
Sun Dance pro Chris Mitchell burned up the Sandpoint links with a 6-under-par 65 Monday to win the Athletic Round Table Pro-Am stop and better by a stroke the mark set by Craig Schuh.
Schuh, now playing out of Deer Park, shot 71 Monday.
Mitchell’s round started inauspiciously enough with a 35 on the front side. But he got it going on the back and came in with a sizzling 30.
Dave Christenson was second with a 5-under 66 on matching nines of 33.
Three other pros - Dan Koesters, University of Idaho; Randy Buckenberger, Twin Lakes Village; and Bob Scott, Liberty Lake - shot 69s.
Mark Rohde of Rohde’s Golf Studion was the only other golfer in the field to better par with a 1-under 70.
Leading amateur was Jim O’Rourke of Spokane Country Club with a 1-over 72.
Three shared the 0-8 handicap group net award with 68s - Bob Heggie, Okanogan Valley; Vern Wheeler, Deer Park; and Tim McElhinney, Birdies Golf Center. Scott Ireland, Lewiston, and Loy Phillips, Painted Hills, had 64s atop the 9-13 group. And Clay Folda of Coeur d’Alene Golf Club led the 14-30 handicappers with a net 68.
AAA Legion baseball
Monty Parson’s two-run double highlighted a four-run third inning that rallied the Royals to a 5-3 win over the North Stars at Jackson Field on Monday night.
Zach Yarbrough scattered six hits and struck out five to keep the North Stars in check.
Basketball
Robin Barnes, Moscow’s head softball coach, has been recommended to fill the school’s vacant girls basketball coaching position.
She will replace Sally Greene, who resigned after the Bears won their fourth State A-2 championship in five years last season.
The Moscow school board will be asked to approve Barnes’ hiring at a meeting next week. Barnes also will continue as softball coach.
