Firm Fined $42,650 For Toxic Release

Compiled From Wire Services

A Colville company has been fined $42,650 for failing to report the release of a toxic chemical, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency announced Monday.

Aladdin Steel Products failed to report the release of the commonly used solvent toluene from 1992 to 1994, the agency said.

Aladdin President Alan Trusler said the reporting failure was an oversight.

“It was not intentional,” he said.

The solvent is in paints the company uses on hearth appliances, Trusler said.

The company is working with EPA officials to follow proper reporting procedures in the future and reduce the fine, Trusler said.
