Dear Heloise: I’ve found that the best container for dominoes is a gallon-size bleach jug.

I cut off the neck and a large opening opposite the handle. If you cut off the top of the handle, it makes a holder for the pencil. It’s easy to throw the dominoes in after the round, reach in and stir them and pass the jug to the next player.

A white bleach jug works best because it’s opaque enough so that you are unable to read the dots through it.
