Murder Suspect Faces Extradition Next Week

From Staff And Wire Reports

After a two-month extradition battle, the accused killer of a Bonner County man will be shipped from Gig Harbor, Wash., to Bonner County next week to stand trial.

Darryl Kuehl, 45, was served with an Idaho Governor’s Warrant this week, ending his fight to stay out of Idaho and face a murder charge.

“Essentially getting a Governor’s Warrant is like being deported,” Bonner County Sheriff Chip Roos said. “The governor said we have a right to this prisoner and Washington will be handing him over next week.”

Kuehl is accused of murdering retired teacher Paul Gruber in 1994. Gruber, 53, was shot several times, wrapped in a waterbed mattress and buried under his Muskrat Lake home.

Authorities searched unsuccessfully for Gruber, but finally recovered his body last fall when a deputy found a sink hole in the crawl space of Gruber’s home.

The makeshift grave had settled and authorities dug out Gruber’s remains with teaspoons to save any evidence. , DataTimes
