Voa To Honor 100 Citizens On Centennial
Here is an opportunity to recognize the outstanding individuals among us who have enriched our community through their leadership and service to others.
Volunteers of America of Spokane, to commemorate its centennial, is accepting nominations for “The Volunteers of America 100,” a community honor roll of 100 citizens who have made a difference as volunteers, employees, neighbors and leaders.
Men or women of any age may be nominated. The individuals selected for the honor will be recognized at an awards dinner in October.
To receive a nomination form, call 624-2378. Nomination applications are due by July 31 to the VOA office, 525 W. Second Ave., Spokane, WA 99204.
Fund-raisers
Support the Inland Empire Council of Camp Fire Boys and Girls by attending one of two benefit performances at the Coeur d’Alene Summer Theatre of “How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying.”
The two performances are Saturday at 8 p.m. and next Sunday at 2 p.m. in the Boswell Auditorium on the North Idaho College campus.
The event begins an hour and a half before each performance with a dessert reception and silent auction featuring a framed and numbered artist’s proof by the late Stephen Lyman.
Proceeds from the benefit performances help to finance Camp Fire programs and services for boys and girls in Eastern Washington and North Idaho.

Community events
Don’t miss the 18th Annual Royal Fireworks Concert performed by the Royal band, a group of professional musicians from the Pacific Northwest playing wind, brass and percussion instruments.
The free summer event begins at 9 p.m. next Sunday at Riverfront Park on the floating stage, with preconcert activities beginning at 4:30 in the Lilac Bowl Meadow.
Kudos to Allegro Baroque and Beyond, Spokane’s period-music organization, for sponsoring the event.
Camp Gifford, sponsored by the Salvation Army, has summer camp openings for five memorable days and nights on Deer Lake. Five sessions are available in July and August.
Girls and boys, ages 7 to 17, can enjoy fun and friendship with activities such as swimming, hiking, crafts, campfires and boating.

Hot Night, downtown Spokane’s summer shopping extravaganza, is Tuesday from 5 to 9 p.m.
Catch a free trolley ride at the trolley stop near the Carrousel and visit one of 13 restaurants offering dining specials throughout the evening.
Head to the Gondola Meadow at Riverfront Park to watch a free concert performed by Moko Jumbie, a steel drum band, from 5 to 7 p.m., then shop at several downtown retail stores offering specials and promotions.
Thursday night is the last concert in the Summer Carillon Concert Series at the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist, 127 E. 12th.
Enjoy the free hourlong concert beginning at 7 p.m., with tours of the cathedral following the performance.
Lawn chairs and picnics are encouraged on the south lawn of the cathedral.
