Marjorie Bixby Spokane

Service for Marjorie Jean Bixby, 77, will be at 2 p.m. today at Sunset Chapel at Fairmount Memorial Park in Spokane. Sherman-Knapp Funeral Home in Newport, Wash., is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Bixby, who died Wednesday, was born in Spokane.

She graduated from North Central High School.

She was a homemaker and lived in Spokane until she moved the Tender Loving Care Home in Newport, two months ago.

She was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church in Spokane.

Her husband, John Bixby, died in 1970.

Survivors include two daughters, Janice Krogh of Sacheen Lake, Wash., and Denise Ball of Yakima; two brothers, Fran Hanson of St. John, Wash., and Robert Hanson of Spokane; five grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

James Grigsby Spokane

Service for James A. Grigsby, 70, will be at 2 p.m. today at Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home. Burial will be at Greenwood Memorial Terrace.

Mr. Grigsby, who was born in Jefferson, Texas, died Tuesday.

He was a resident of Spokane for 48 years and was a member of Steelworkers Local No. 238.

He was a World War II Air Force veteran and received the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Ribbon with one Bronze Star, the Philippine Liberation Ribbon, the Good Conduct Medal, the Victory Ribbon, and two Overseas Service Bars.

He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Mary Grigsby; four sons, Maurice and James Grigsby, both of Seattle, and Juan and Nino Grigsby, both of Spokane; a daughter, Pamela Thornton of Spokane; a brother, Carl Grigsby of Joliet, Ill.; a sister, Mable Gibson of Joliet, and eight grandchildren.

Robert Beal Spokane

Service for Robert Lee Beal, 73, is set for 1 p.m. today at Riplinger Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Riverside Memorial Park.

Born in Worthington, Minn., Mr. Beal died Thursday from an injury received in a July 3 accident.

He retired in 1985 after 35 years with Consolidated Freightways.

He was a World War II Army Veteran.

Mr. Beal was a member of Eagles Lodge No. 2.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Evelyn Beal; two daughters, Patricia Williams and Ann Beal, both of Spokane; two sons, Richard and Robert Beal Jr., both of Spokane; a brother, John Beal, and a sister, Beverly Williams, both of Cusick, Wash.; 13 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Kenneth Stolte Spokane

Service for Kenneth L. “Ken” Stolte, 78, will be at 10:30 a.m. today at Fellowship Church of God. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery. Riplinger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Stolte died Thursday.

He was born in Kalispell, Mont.

He had lived in Spokane for more than 35 years and worked as a railroad engineer for 47 years with Burlington Northern Railroad.

He was a member of the Fellowship Church of God, Disabled American Veterans No. 45, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1474, Veterans of Foreign Wars National Home, 384th Bomb Group, National Association of Retired Veteran Railway Employees, Burlington Northern Veterans and the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers.

He served in the Navy from 1935 to 1939 and in the Army Air Corps from 1944 to 1945.

He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Mary Ellen Stolte; three sons, Richard Stolte of Vancouver, Wash., Robert Stolte of Portland, and Verne Stolte of Iowa; a daughter, Cynthia Slivka of Pittsburgh; two stepsons, Wayne and Darrell Morehead, both of Spokane; a brother, William Stolte of Kalispell, Mont.; 15 grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimers Association or the Fellowship Church of God.

Albert Peterson M.D. Spokane

Memorial service for Dr. Albert M. Peterson, 88, will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Rockwood Retirement Community. Private inurnment was held at Wilbur (Wash.) Cemetery. Strate Funeral Home in Wilbur, is in charge of arrangements.

Dr. Peterson died July 15. He was born in Sawyer, N.D.

He received a bachelor’s degree from Minot Teachers College and taught school for several years.

He completed pre-med courses at the University of North Dakota and graduated from Temple University Medical School in Philadelphia. He interned at Sacred Heart Hospital in Spokane and began a medical practice in Wallace, Idaho, in 1941.

He married Margaret Gyorfi, a graduate nurse he met during his internship, in 1942.

He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II with the Eighth Air Force, in England, as a flight surgeon.

He practiced medicine until 1978. He had served as president of the medical staff at Providence Hospital in Wallace, president of the Shoshone County Medical Society and as county and city health officer and county coroner.

He and his wife moved to Scottsdale, Ariz., after he retired. They moved to Spokane in 1992.

His wife died in 1995.

Survivors include three sisters-in-law, Barbara Alderson of Spokane, Marie Goodman of Davenport, Wash., and Leona Gyorfi of Wilbur.

Elsie Kelly Spokane

Private service for Elsie C. Kelly, 97, will be held. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Born in Sharon, Wash., Mrs. Kelly died Friday.

She had lived in Spokane since 1929 and worked as a florist.

Her husband, Arthur Kelly, died in 1976. She is survived by a daughter, Patricia Turner of Spokane.
