The NCAA placed Texas-Pan American on four years’ probation for recruiting and ethics violations in the men’s basketball program.

The infractions case was the third brought against the Division I university since 1990 and resulted in the school’s second probation in four years.

A youth basketball coach accused of assaulting two officials during a Feb. 4 game was convicted of assault in a Newport, Ky., courtroom.

James Pouncy, 24, now faces a penalty of up to a year in the Campbell County Jail. Pouncy, of Covington, had testified that he acted in self-defense after one of the officials attacked him.
