L-C State Captures Ninth National Title

Matt Randel (8-0) pitched a four-hitter and struck out 10 as Lewis-Clark State blanked St. Ambrose (Iowa) 9-0 for the NAIA baseball championship Friday at Sioux City, Iowa.

Randel struck out 10 and walked none.

LCSC had 18 hits, including three each from Jose Rijo-Berger, Art Baeza and Troy Silva. The Warriors (53-11) won their record ninth national title in 13 years and their first since 1992.

Todd Huntley and Ryan Schmitz each had two hits for St. Ambrose (42-19).

Rowing

Gonzaga qualified for the finals of the freshman 4 repechage by winning its heat at the Intercollegiate Rowing Association championships at Camden, N.J.

GU clocked 6 minutes, 45.2 seconds and joined five teams in the finals.
