River Fest Will Roll Without Race

Julie Titone Staff Writer

It looks as if Mother Nature will bless Post Falls with sunshine for this weekend’s Huck Finn River Fest - which is only fair, given that high runoff into the Spokane River canceled the fest’s centerpiece event.

A river race had been scheduled for Saturday. But the current is too fast for rafts and canoes to be in the water above the Post Falls Dam, said organizer Rick Shenfield.

“We’ve had a wet spring and they’re unable to close the dam off, so the water flow is too much,” Shenfield said. “It’s very unsafe out there.”

There are lots of other events scheduled for the event, formerly known as Post Falls Days. They will take place at Q’Emlin Park, just south of the Spokane Street bridge.
