Will Furrer of Pullman ran 46 yards for a touchdown and threw for three scores to give Amsterdam a 31-27 victory over the Scottish Claymores in the WLAF in Amsterdam, Netherlands.

Furrer hit wide receiver Darren Chandler from 7 yards for the game’s first TD and a 18-yard field goal from Adam Vinatieri gave Amsterdam a 10-0 advantage at the half.

At Albany, N.Y., Lyn Jennings beat her own record in the 5-kilometer run with a 15 minute, 21 second finish in the Freihofer’s Run For Women, winning the U.S. Women’s national championship. Jennings, of Newmarket, N.H., beat the 15:24 record-setting run in last year’s race to repeat as champion, earning $7,000 for her victory and a bonus $5,000 for the record.

At Briancon, France, Pascal Richard of Switzerland won one of the toughest Alpine stages in the Tour of Italy, capturing the 14th leg of the cycling classic by 43 seconds.
