Calipari Not Interested In 76ers
John Calipari has told his boss at the University of Massachusetts that he is no longer interested in the Philadelphia 76ers head coaching job.
Calipari interviewed with the Sixers eight days ago. Since then, his name also has been linked to the vacant New Jersey Nets job, although it is uncertain how serious the team was. UMass athletic director Bob Marcum was uncertain to what extent, if at all, Calipari had spoken with New Jersey.
UMass will begin investigating whether Marcus Camby accepted gifts from sports agents.
Athletic director Bob Marcum said the problem may stem from a “disgruntled” agent who wanted to sign the All-America center.
Marcum, speaking at a news conference, said UMass officials had no reason to believe Camby was accepting improper gifts.
Marcum was responding to a story in the Hartford (Conn.) Courant on Tuesday in which Camby admitted accepting jewelry and money from two agents.
Arkansas basketball players Kareem Reid and Marlon Towns, both freshman guards last season, were suspended indefinitely from the team after being arrested and cited for possession of a controlled substance - allegedly marijuana - last week.
Player Harold Deane, charged with trespassing and resisting arrest, has taken an indefinite leave of absence from the University of Virginia’s basketball team.
