Confidant-turned-informant Dennis Pedini violated a gag order in the drug case of Dallas wide receiver Michael Irvin by giving an interview to a tabloid television show, a judge ruled. Pedini was cited for contempt of court, fined $500 and sentenced to 30 days in jail after Pedini appeared on and provided hidden-camera video of Irvin to the syndicated news magazine “Hard Copy.”
Fuzzy Zoeller, 44, failed to make the field for next week’s U.S. Open. Zoeller, shot a 2-under-par 70 at Knickerbocker Country Club in Tenefly, N.J., in a U.S. Open qualifying tourney, but a 4-over 76 at Montammy Golf Club in nearby Alpine in the afternoon and finished at 146, 11 shots behind Scott Gump, the low medalist.
Former Oregon basketball star Greg Ballard, Olympic ski champion Bill Johnson and the 1980-81 Oregon State basketball team are among this year’s inductees in the Oregon Sports Hall of Fame.
Also selected were former OSU football star Ted Bates, Oregon Tech basketball coach Danny Miles and the late Ormond Bean, a Portland city commissioner in the 1930s, ‘40s and ‘50s.
The Clippers have notified the Los Angeles Sports Arena that they intend to end their lease, bringing the NBA team closer to moving to Orange County.
