Former University of Washington quarterback Steve Pelluer threw three touchdown passes to give the Frankfurt Galaxy a 24-21 WLAF victory over the Barcelona Dragons in Frankfort, Germany. Pelluer, also a former Dallas Cowboy, connected with another former Husky Mario Bailey on a 35-yard touchdown pass.

Butch Soper, a 25-year veteran of the Professional Bowlers Association, beat Walter Ray Williams Jr. 226-210 to win the 1996 PBA National Championship in Toledo, Ohio, the first major title of his career.

At Salt Lake City, the Utah Grizzlies swept the Orlando Solar Bears in four games and won the International Hockey League’s Turner Cup in a 3-2 overtime game at the Delta Center. The Grizzlies are coached by former Spokane Chiefs coach Butch Goring.

It was the second straight year the Grizzlies won the IHL championship cup.
