Sheriff Inventory Short Cars, Gun

From Staff And Wire Reports

Ousted Latah County Sheriff Joe Overstreet is blaming his predecessor for two cars and a machine gun he cannot account for on his office inventory.

Overstreet, who lost his re-election bid last month when he finished third in a three-way Republican primary with just 16 percent of the vote, contends former Sheriff Ken Buxton left no information behind about the office inventory.

During a meeting with county commissioners, Sheriff’s Lt. Tom Idol said there are two vehicles on the inventory which are no longer at the sheriff’s office, and nobody seems to know where they are.

Deputy County Prosecutor Doug Whitney said the titles of the vehicles must be found so they can be accounted for, but Overstreet speculated the two vehicles may have been eliminated while Buxton was still in office.
