Dear Heloise: Rawhide chews can be very dangerous for your pet! They are a potential choking hazard.

I gave one to my Doberman as a treat to keep him occupied while he was outside. I never imagined that he would choke on one, but he got it lodged in his throat and choked to death. So please, if you give your dog a rawhide chew, make sure you keep a close check on him or her. - Sandy Rose, Circleville, Ohio
