Hints From Heloise

King Features Syndicate

Dear Heloise: There are many VCR tapes on how to do things, but none on taking things apart. I use this idea when I have to take something apart to repair it - makes it much easier to put it back together.

I set up my VCR camera on a tripod, aim and focus it on whatever I am planning to repair and away I go. When it comes time to put things together and the item has many parts that have to go back together in a complicated sequence and I get stuck, I just rewind the tape. I put the player on slow motion and use the Pause button to stop the tape at the appropriate spot and there is the picture of the way things are supposed to go together. If I get stuck again, I go through the same process until the job is done. - Arnold B. Irvine, Naples, Fla.

Dear Heloise: I put dishwasher detergent in my dishwasher after emptying the clean dishes so it’s obvious the dishwasher has not been operated. - JoAnn Bailey, Baird, Texas
