Bison Slaughter May Be Over For Now
The slaughter of bison wandering from Yellowstone National Park into Montana appears over for now, a Montana Department of Livestock official said Friday.
“The report that I received …was that the grass is coming back in the park, and the migration season may be ending until it picks up again next fall,” said Larry Petersen, executive officer.
Since June 1, 1995, 418 bison have been killed, Petersen said.
In Montana, the bison are killed because they are known carriers of the infectious disease brucellosis, which can cause domestic livestock to abort.
