Hints From Heloise

King Features Syndicate

Dear Heloise: Recently, I ran into a dilemma. During a severe rainstorm, we lost both of our cordless telephones to lightning even though we had surge protectors on them. My hint to anyone with a cordless phone is to unplug it during a rainstorm.

We have since bought a new one, only to lose it outside due to children or dogs.

Now when we go outside to work in the yard, I take my son’s phone, put it in a fanny pack and strap it to my waist. That way, I know I won’t lose it. I just unzip and answer when someone calls, and my hands are free to do my yardwork with peace of mind of where I left the phone. - A Faithful Fan, Elaine Price, Hammond, La.

Thanks for sharing two very good money- and frustration-saving hints. - Heloise
