Dirk Kempthorne Gets Leadership Role
In the leadership shakeup among Senate Republicans following Bob Dole’s resignation to run full-time for president Idaho Sen. Dirk Kempthorne has been given a role.
Assistant Republican Leader Don Nickles of Oklahoma has named Kempthorne the deputy assistant majority leader for strategy, policy and floor tactics.
Nickles said Kempthorne has shown the ability to bring people together, specifically citing Kempthorne’s leading role in passage of unfunded mandates legislation and in revision of drinking water regulation.
Idaho Republican Larry Craig was elected chairman of the Senate GOP Policy Committee after Dole’s departure.
