Itron, Abb Strike Joint Venture Deal

Itron Inc. and ABB Kent of Luton, United Kingdom, will jointly develop automatic meter-reading equipment for the British firm’s water meters.

ABB is the world’s largest maker of water meters, with about 25 percent of the global market.

Itron spokesman Bill Wilbert said the Spokane Valley company is the only maker of automatic meter-reading equipment that produces versions for water meter manufacturers.

“It’s an emerging market,” he said, noting that water meters represent about 6 percent of the Spokane Valley company’s business.
