Jacobs, Thompson Share Valley View Cup
The Valley View Ladies Golf Club President’s Cup tournament ended in a tie.
Joyce Jacobs and Pat Thompson had best two-round net scores of 58 to share the Cup.
A and B flight winners respectively were Tina Marie Reger and Sue Matsui with 61.
Tying in C flight were Emma Long and Laura Odette with 67.
During medal play, Anne Meyers led A golfers with 44, Dee Elder led B with 48 and Pat Lacroix led C with 64. No-handicap winner was Jean Patterson with 55.
Net winners A through C were Jacobs at 29, Carol Maycock at 26 and Anne DeLong with 30.
Hanging Tree winners
Winner of the Hanging Tree Tournament for Hangman Valley Ladies Golf Club was determined following third and final round last week.
Marie Nelson’s best two-round total of 134 led the six strokes.
First flight winners were Billie Etter with 145, Lisa Hambleton with 145 and Gloria Cash with 148.
Second flight winners were Fran Nord with 140, Freda Beckman with 144 and Carol Wagner with 148.
Third flight winners were Arlene Levitch with 143, Margaret Brashears with 147 and Noreen Sale with 148.
Fourth Flight winners were Joyce Mohler with 153, followed by Betty Dalzell at 158 and Delores Bridwell with 169.
Medal play at Liberty Lake
Members of the Liberty Lake 18-Hole Golf Club and 9-Holers conducted medal play last week.
The 18-Hole Club was greeted with pleasant weather and golfers responded. By contrast, the 9-Hole group played in a rainstorm.
Sandy Mooney shot 86, in A flight of the 18-Hole Club outing. Lily Shiosaki and Beckman had 97 in B flight, Marge Tibbitts shot 99 in C and Karen Wiggs had 109 in D.
Net winners were Jean Hatcher with 72 in A flight, Jean Fulks with 74 in B, Colleen Wisenor and Betty Harmon with 72 in C and Carol Schultz with 75 in D.
Souls who braved the wet for the 9-Holers included Elaine Tai who shot 52 in A flight. Joanne Ruddell netted 46.
In B flight, Cathy March shot 62 and Ruth Jenkins netted 41. C flight leaders were Sadie Rueckert with 61 and Jean Skredsvig with 39.
Pregnancy doesn’t stop Deckard
Painted Hills Ladies club golfer Danice Deckard is six months pregnant but it hasn’t handicapped her game.
The 5-handicap A flight golfer continues to breeze through the club’s weekly round, last week shooting 42 for nine holes.
Other flight leaders were Jane Dashiell with 54 in B, Shelly Van with 59 in C and Irene Strong with 62 in D. Those in the process of establishing a handicap were led by Debbie Akers’ 58.
Net leaders were Margaret Bainter with 35 in A, Colleen McGraw with 37 in B, Pam Baynes with 37 in C and Cathy Diehl with 41 in D.
Four Midget leaders collide
The luck of the schedule had the remaining four unbeaten Midget League teams playing each other on Tuesday.
Ashco Insurance played Norma’s Burger-Adams in the American Division, winning 12-3 and Norma’s Burger Barn played Ethan Allen, winning 9-1.
The quartet all had 7-0 records going into the week.
Bobby Downs hit a grand slam home run and pitcher Ryan Walley hit a two-run homer for victorious Ashco. Ashco pitchers allowed two runs during previous 8-1 and 2-1 victories.
Adams escaped Dollar Rent-A-Car 13-12 and won 16-0.
Dollar scored six seventh-inning runs to make the game close. Caleb McGlothin went 3-for-3 during Adams’ 17-hit game.
During the shutout win, Adams’ Jacob Sonsalla and Matt Barney were each 3-for-4. Sonsalla hit two home runs and a double.
Norma’s Burger Barn pitchers James Haile and Andrew Ettinger combined on a no-hit shutout against Medicine Shoppe. Haile had four hits in two wins including three doubles and a home run.
Ethan Allen scored 35 runs in two wins, getting a combined 18 strikeouts by pitchers Joe Hennessey and Kyle Erwert against Les Schwab Tire. Hennessey and Luke Jensen each had three hits.
Against Spokane Valley Baseball, Scott Florin hit two doubles and Brent Fox a triple.
In other Midget games, Broadway Eye Care scored six runs in the seventh inning for a 7-7 tie with Food Rainbow. Michael Koentopp three hits, including a home run.
Gibson’s Nursery won twice with Brett Woollett going 5-for-5 with seven RBIs.
Pee Wee showdown sidetracked
Monday’s expected Pee Wee showdown between American Division unbeatens was sidetracked by George Velis DDS.
Velis extracted a 7-4 victory over Jim Psomas DDS and left Norma’s Burger Barn the only division unbeaten after eight games.
Norma’s won twice by a 40-9 count, including a 21-0 shutout over Progress. Steven Anderson struck out eight and Shane Fisher and Chad Bucher each had three hits.
In the second win Anderson had three hits and Kenny Zachow a three-run homer.
The team then escaped Dave’s Grill 21-14, a team which had won six straight games.
In three other wins, 8-1 Jim Psomas DDS piled up 63 runs. Scotty McFarland hit two home runs and Jeremy Montang added three hits in one win. Karl Womack hit two home runs and a triple, scoring four runs and driving in six in another.
Syncor, at 7-1, is one of four teams vying for the National Division lead.
Included was a 1-0 decision over Valley Instant Printing which didn’t allow a hit despite the loss.
Pitchers Bret Riggin and Travis Henderson struck out 10. They were joined by Jay Dee Edlund in fanning 16 while beating CXT and won a 2-1 decision over Pizza Hut.
In VIP’s victory over Screen Tek, Edlund and Luke Raynor fanned 16. Raynor also drove in four runs with two hits.
